Dr. jur. Markus Heinrich Schneider is Swiss. Having studied law at Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz, he completed his legal training at the Regional Court (LG) Wiesbaden, elsewhere in Germany and in France. In 1997 he was one of the first doctoral candidates to write a thesis on sports law issues (sponsoring of high-performance athletes under aspects of legal history and constitutional law).

Dr. Markus H. Schneider is specialist in trade and company law and has worked as a lawyer since 1997, the year in which he joined a renowned law firm in Karlsruhe that works on cases heard by the German Federal Court of Justice (Prof. Dr. Nirk & Prof. Dr. Dr. Gross), as a research staff member. He established his own law firm in 2003. Markus H. Schneider has taught sports law at the University Karlsruhe (KIT) for several years; since 2004 he has been responsible on the board of the Baden Football Association for questions relating to the by-laws. He was the sports law expert during international training sessions held by the German Football Association (DFB) and the German Foreign Office. His affinity for sports law is not surprising since in his youth he played for the German premier soccer league club FSV Mainz 05 (youth division) and still plays for the senior men’s team.
